Foodakke!
(fu’ de kah-kee)
Today I coin a new phrase. Unlike Lacey Chabert a.k.a. Gretchen from one of my all time Favorite movies “Mean Girls “it is not a phrase that I can just use at random like ‘that is so fetch’ I am making it up and calling it mine. I call it mine but the fact is it has owned me for years upon years. It has been quite noticeable for the last few years as I become more aware of whom I am and what I am trying to present.
Word origins
The term bukakke is Japanese and means to toss over or throw upon with great force. This term has also been applied to many adult movies; you can use your own imagination on how. The phrase I am coining is very similar however; it applies when food is involved. For instance, when you are sitting on the curb with melted gelato and spill it on your foot, you have just foodakked yourself. When spilling ranch dressing from a delicious salad all over one of your favorite shirts means that you have been the victim of foodakke. When you spill an entire bowl full of pho on a friend, your friend has just been the recipient of a noodle-based foodakke.
Personal History
Somewhere out there is a picture of a toe headed kid, face down in a pile of spaghetti. This is a picture of me. From the very early age of five years old, I have been the victim of foodakke. I cannot recall all the wondrous foodakke moments or loves lost to glorious foodakke developments, but I do know that I have wonderful memories of foodakke. I have found being able to laugh when foodakke sits at your table can lead to the fabulous laughter and happy moments.
